Heritage Day: What Makes You Proudly South African?

In celebration of Heritage Day, or as we often call it, Braai Day, we asked your Hellopeter Community why they’re proudly South African! Here are some of the responses…

🌍Proudly South African

“I’m proud to be South African because of our rich diversity, vibrant cultures, and the enduring spirit of Ubuntu that unites us. From the breathtaking landscapes to our resilient people, there’s a unique magic that defines us as a nation.” – Siyanda.

“I am proud to be a South African because of our diverse culture, beautiful country and UBUNTU spirit! South Africans unite like no other in a time of need.” – Anna.

“South Africa 🇿🇦 is the most beautiful and freest country in the world and the people are warm and friendly. You can be anything you want to be; possibilities are endless in this country. We have our problems, but when we get together, nothing can stop us. I am proud of being a citizen of this country because I am what I am today because of my people and the type of country that I was born in.” – Hlungwana.

🌿Diversity in All Things

“I’m proud to be South African because of how diverse our cultures are, but it is the Ubuntu that makes us special as a country… I’m so proud because of our beautiful landscapes, mountains, rivers, lakes and oceans, not forgetting our animals. I love South Africa and everything and everyone who dwells on it…. South Africa, my home.” – Vumi.

“Our unique and beautiful landscapes and the diversity of people and cultures.” – Johannie.

“Some might emphasise historical background, and how we overcame oppression, some might focus on our achievements, the FIFA 2010. Whichever pops up first, the best is that South Africa is a beautiful blend and representation of diversity, language and culture. We do have a lot of work ahead of us in terms of our economy, but there is nowhere else I’d rather be, and definitely, there’s no other country I’d rather be a part of. I am a proud member of the Republic of South Africa!” – Kslekgema.

“I love being a part of a country full of rich and diverse cultures.”– Bronwyn.

🌈Melting Pot of Cultures

“South Africa is a country unlike any other. Our diverse culture is a melting pot of influences from indigenous African tribes, European colonists, Indian labourers, and countless others who have made this land their home. As a Graphic Designer, I have had the privilege of drawing inspiration from this vibrant mosaic. The intricate patterns of Zulu beadwork, the rich colours of the Ndebele people, and the symbolism of the San bushmen have all found their way into my designs, creating a fusion that reflects the essence of our nation.” – Nicholas.

“The rich cultures, our beautiful and diverse landscapes and just that feeling of Ubuntu! We’re also a very optimistic and resilient nation.” – Tania.

💕 Warm Hospitality

“I am a proud South African. I love my culture and African origin. I was taught respect for every person regardless of their culture and upbringing. I love my skin. It may be bright, but it’s my African skin. We know love, respect and caring for one another in South Africa. We are almost all related in one way or the other. That’s why we have uncles, sisters, brothers, aunties and extended families. We all celebrate our culture, and this day is the best where we remember our true origins…” – Zpruem.

“The people, the smiling faces of every cashier, every salesperson, every petrol attendant, everyone you pass at the beach. It’s heartwarming, it’s healing, it tells you that you are home.” – Anna.
